Selected works

I was deeply tempted to call this webpage “Selected Ambient Works”, as an homage to the masterpiece music album by Aphex Twin. Unluckily, it would have confused my readers, and as professional communicator I care about, you know, being clear.

Here you can find some of the articles I published, at least some of those who gave me the most joy. I’ll do my best to keep this page updated.

For Radiotelevisione della Svizzera Italiana, hosted on live radio

I regularly write for Radiotelevisione della Svizzera Italiana (RSI), and sometimes I get to present my news on live radio, typically on Rete Uno. It is a nice way to value a journalistic research: the same content is presented to the public via two different vectors, which give added value to each other. It’s pretty neat, isn’t it?

For Radiotelevisione della Svizzera Italiana, science news

I write weekly small articles for RSI. In this case, the topic needs to be very captivating, the format short, high-paced, entertaining. At the same time, scientific accuracy needs to be ensured. It is a good exercise.

Long-standing collaboration with Ticino Scienza

Ticino Scienza is a small platform by IBSA Foundation. It solely focuses on science news from Ticino, the Italian speaking canton of Switzerland (pedantic note: Italian is also spoken in Grigioni, but it is not dominant). The region is so small that sometimes we write about talks at universities, which typically do not see press representatives within the crowd. The editorial line focuses much on the people and institutions, rather than scientific mechanism – yet another perspective on academia.

Feature articles for Swissinfo

Swissinfo is a public platform dedicated to people out of Switzerland who want to stay updated on our country. It is part of the SSR SRG family, just like RSI, RTS, SRF and RTR (and SwissTXT). For them, I sometimes write long feature articles. My first publication on this outlet was an interview with Carlo Rubbia for his 90th birthday, on the same year as 70th anniversary of CERN and 40th of his Nobel prize. With my great surprise, I was among the few journalists who covered the news, and the only one who got an interview with him for the occasion. More articles on this SWI will b published soon, stay tuned!

Other articles, a bit older

Towards the end of my PhD, I had the chance to write a “Minifocus” article about Ticin for the prestigious magazine Horizon. You’ll never believe it, but it is thanks to this article in English that I started my collaboration with Ticino Scienza and, later, RSI.

23 february 2023 Of supercomputers and chestnut forests: a trip to Ticino

I want to share with you, dear fellow who scrolled all this way down, one of my first articles. At the very beginning of my career, end of 2018 and beginning of 2019, I wrote for the local newspaper Il corriere del Ticino. My very first article is not available on the internet (we still used printed paper back then!), unluckily, but I want to share here another important piece of life: the very first time I went on the field for an interview. I was – and still am – sincerely passionate about the topic of metrology, the science of measuring, and in order to write about the silent “measurement unit revolution” I went to METAS to interview its research director. Incredibly exciting experience.
